San Antonio is HUGE. What do you need to be near as far as work is concerned? Do you drive, take the bus? There are thousands of places to live here. You need to provide more information.

Well a little more info is needed, but I personally would stick to the North and NW sides of town. If your on a budget you should look for an all bills paid apt. There is a complex off of 410 and Evers across the street from Las Palapas. It's not fancy but it's not distgusting. If you want fancy there's Promintory Point in the Medical Center area.

yes...it depends on which part of town you want to live on. I used to be a police officer here in town and I am familiar with most areas of town.
Are you planning on moving here for school or work? If school...which one? If work...where is it that you will be working?
San Antonio is also logistically sound. You can get anywhere in SA within 30 mins if traffic conditions are minimal. So, you can live practically anywhere and get where you need to get to in a decent amount of time(traffic permitting).
Please give more info.

All in all, though, I would recommend anywhere on the west to NW part of SA. It's all pretty middle class area. Not too fancy and expensive and not too lowly either. And try to stay outside of Loop 410.

Good luck
