Well, why not wear a shirt that says, "Evangelical Christians are an abomination to humanity" and see how THAT plays out.

Ban one, you have to ban them all.

Wow, I thought this was going to be an easy answer at first. Is it free speech in a general sense? Yes. I shouldn't be told what to wear or where to display my beliefs (bumper stickers come to mind). Given an environment where violence is generated by such views, should this t-shirt be protected by free speech? I think so, even though it certainly creates some crazy gray area. I wonder where you can draw the line between preemptively stopping violence and stomping on somebody's civil liberties. If you didn't allow that shirt, you wouldn't have an open declaration of the viewpoint that breeds violence. On the other hand, you have no way of knowing whether the person wearing the shirt will ever be violent, simply because they hold that view. My brain hurts.

Hopefully this case will come to court and the policy be *changed.* By saying that homosexuals are an abomination to god is to speak, incooretly, for everyone that believes in some sort of divine being. Now, if the person worre a shirt that said "MY god hates homosexuals." I wouldn't like it, but in that case the person is speaking for themselves and expressing their own religious beliefs. That is what should be protected. The current wording that they're using is wrong though. Not everyone views their divine in the same way and it is wrong for them to speak for everyone like that.

When i was in Nort Carolina this was going on. A high school student was sent home for wearing a "God made Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve" shirt, the ACLU defended the student, saying that she had the right to express her opinion.

This is freedom of speech and freedom of religion. Everyone has a right to their own opinion about God. The best policy is to ignore people like that. Whatever....they can talk to the hand! By giving them your attention, you perpetuate the problem as well.

That statement is a quote from a religious book, You cannot quash religious free speech. Its against the law. If someone disagrees with your lifestyle its their choice, or do you only support freedom of speech when its convenient to you and supports your view ?

Yes, it's free speech. It would also be free speech for you to compose a tee shirt message of your own. Perhaps something along the lines of "Those who feel compelled to tell others how to live need to get a life themselves." You can probably make it shorter and snappier, but you get the idea.

because the religious reich deems it so and everyone else listens to them. if i saw someone wearing it - believe me there would be more than hate speech going on. i am born and reared catholic and i still can't believe what the religious leaders think about homosexuality. the ignorance is astounding!

I pity the kids who have been brainwashed by their insecure and black hearted parents. Imagine the self hate when they come to realize that they might be GLBT, and the fear when they realize that their family will not love them for the person they are but judge them for something they have no control over.
