I have always wondered why my vagina looks different from say, those in porn. I have always noticed that when the lips are spread apart, a piece of skin is visible in the middle . I am not a virgin (not for 2 yrs.), but after reading up on how hymen's can be extremely flexible, I'm wondering what it is. Very strange question to ask, but how else do you know?

Yes. I know I need to ask a gyno-but the only gyno I've ever been to was a male and treated me like an idiot every time I asked a question.

From what I have learned about porn movies don't compare yourself to those women. There is so much editing that goes on with them and so much enhancement . No two vagina's are the same and they do look different. Your hymen is inside you and you can't see it from the outside so that piece of skin you see could be something else like a skin tag. Woman get those all the time.

To begin with, not all vaginas look the same. Also, these women's vaginas have seen more action in a few short months (very few porn queens last more than a year or so) than you will probably see in a lifetime. Their bodies have been used and abused to the point they will never look normal again. While the labia are made of the stretchiest material known to man, they eventually loose their "snap" just like a rubberband that is stretched out over and over and over and over and over.........

And find another doctor. Even a female family practice physician would be better than a man in answering such questions.

sweat heart, all vaginas differ, oddly if you look at yours and then that of another womans your age, you'll find that they are very different from each other. I know it's hard to find comfort in that but truely, think of the vagina as you would the penis, in principle, all penis's look simular, but are not the exact same. Some are short, some long, some have skin where otheres don't, right down to color and thickness, everything can be a variable. As for your extra skin, it pulls back as it gets more use, and after child birth you won't even remember it. If it really bothers you, I would suggest seeing a doctor. Take care!

Okay. If you only had sex once, your hymen can grow back after an extended period of time.
Another possibility is that when you aren`t having sex, or using a tampon, the walls of the vagina are closed and they touch each other. It could look like a piece of skin, but it`s the walls touching.
I read about this a few weeks ago, in Cosmo I think, or some other women`s magazine. You can ask your gyno for confirmation, but I think it`s either/or of the above. Hope it helps!!

There are as many shapes of vagina as there are women! Just as there as many kinds of face, breasts and feet! Your 'piece of skin' is completely normal!
You can't see the hymen from outside...it is inside, and girls these days who cycle, do gymn at school, run and climb trees or railings(!) rarely have an intact hymen by the time they become sexually active. It's a very thin membrane usually and breaks easily.....we rarely notice.
Porn photos are like advertising photos - they are manipulated by computer graphics technicians to 'tidy them up'...according to the notions of the operator.....and/or what the advertiser wants to sell !!

If you're concerned about it, you can have your doctor check it out. If it doesn't hurt and doesn't interfere with sex, I wouldn't worry about it. They could tell you if it's abnormal or not. Although, if you're sexually active, you should be getting pap smears regularly anyway. Ask at your next pap smear.

I'm sure your doctor was not treating you like an idiot, although it wouldn't be unusual for you to be nervous and feel like one for asking. It could just be what's left of yor hymen... are you sure it's not your clit?
