I need something that makes ok money, enough for modest rent. I would rather shoot myself in the head than lab tech again. What other options might be available to me? Should I just find a job and use my free time to volunteer to build up practical experience? I've applied to local museums, and that's the sort of thing I'm hoping to find. Any other ideas?

You could always become a teachers aid or a biology teacher at a private school.

A teachers aid position pays about $12/hr in Los Angeles.
Teachers are paid anywhere from $30K-$40K a year. You will have to pass the CBEST and CSET in California to at least become an intern-teacher.
