He's 16 years old, and it appeared right after he got jolted around in his friends car. Its not cancerous, and it's not a tumor. Could it possibly be a swollen rib? He's so nervous and scared, and the doctor's aren't open on Sundays. Ideas???

Know one here can tell you not even if he was a doctor, not without seeing him. So it is best to go to the hospital. It may not be nothing and then it could. Better save then sorry.

HOW DO YOU KNOW IT'S NOT CANCEROUS? ARE YOU A PHYSICIAN? WHY HASN'T HE GONE TO THE DOCTOR BEFORE NOW? It probably isn't, but don't wait too long. He can call his doctor, first thing on Monday morning, and they will try to work him in. My community has "urgent care" centers, where one can go when one doesn't have a regular family physician or when it's a weekend, Is that an option for you?
If his parents aren't yet involved, TELL THEM, regardless of whether your boyfriend wants you to, or not. You're a great person to be this concerned.

My suggestion is that if it is really hurting to take him to the hospital. It could be a number of things, though, it sounds like it could be a broken rib. Plus if he is scared, going to a hospital would ease his mind, as opposed to waiting another day being nervous and scared.

If it has grown in size in a matter of days he should get to an emergency room. It could be a bruise or even a broken rib. Tell him not to wait.

Then go to the doctors on Monday. I think its better to assure him that its ok, and you can always see a doctor on Monday, the day after Sunday.
