This is a very good suggestion.

All nations should officially ban religion and such a measure would put religious bigotry on the backburner. But as far as personal freedom is concerned, it should be allowed.

But this is going to be a very very difficult task for all governments. Here it is worth-mentioning that the clergy (of any religion) exercises a lot of influence on the political leaders and governments of many nations.

As an atheist I can agree with you to a certain extent but the situation globally is a highly complex one. Religion is the cause of so much of the 'evil' in the world that it tries to prevent the masses it indoctrinates from committing. On the other hand I believe that certain people depending on their own life experiences may feel the need to have a belief in a higher power. I myself prefer reason and rational thinking and have the ability to accept what I and the scientific community do not currently understand and work towards a future of greater understanding rather than a 'one answer fits all' solution. So to answer your question, no I don't think religion should be 'banned' but it's global emphasis on human culture, society and general understanding of the nature of our universe should be reduced greatly if we are to move forward and coexist peacefully...

No.
We're human, right?
And religion is something that holds humans together and gives them purpose.
Some people don't need a religion to survive. Most people do.
That's why there are so many - people need to believe there is a deeper meaning to life, that it wasn't just an amazing accident.
That when their loved ones die, they are in a better place.
That death isn't the end.
Depressing, right?
Wrong. Why? Well... We have a religion to keep our heads up. To give our life a meaning & to make everything seem better.
Some time in your life you're probably going to wish you believed in something. It would make things a whole lot easier to accept and to understand.
Plus religion makes people behave.
So whether or not you actually believe in some divine power, you have to see the benefits that religion bring.
(Yeah there are a few downsides... But in reality, religion is just part of being human....)
So... NO, religion should definitely NOT be banned.

I quite like this question and it is not at all offensive.
I personally am not religious and do not believe in any form of religion however,I have nothing against those who do believe in their own faiths.
I think that we should do away with all churches or places of worship and those who are religious should practice it in the confines of their own homes and in private, that way other people will not interfere or harass others,I am sick of all these religions being in my face all the time, after all we who do not believe are not on the streets demonstrating or threatening to kill etc.
I do not think banning is the right way instead as I have said keep it private.

Yes it should. Religion is the most useless aspect of any culture. All it does is promote ignorance and hatred towards others. Religion has never contributed anything positive, and should be abolished from the world. Its time for mankind to start thinking for themselves, and to stop being led around like sheep by the imaginary words of an imaginary thing.

No. It is not the people who actually believe in their religions and practise them that do all the harm. It is the people who only pretend to believe in them while disobeying all their teachings and still using the religion as a pretext for all sorts of evil acts that are totally against their religion.

This is true of every religion I have ever heard of. It doesn't matter what the religion is, if only its adherents would actually practise it in good faith it would be a great and trouble-free world.

Religion was and always has been used to control people.
Russia's Tsar even shopped around Europe to find a religion to import in order to control of his people.
Everyone knows it was only after the fall of Rome's Senate that religion was started in that country.
They fed their lions at no cost with Christ's followers for years.

God has been used and abused by all the religions in the world for their own power or wealth at some time or other.
Banning them now would be like starting WW3 before the upcoming nuclear countries are ready to start it themselves.
All in the name of their own God of course.

No because religion is some people's way to a life, a new lifestyle so if you banned religion, you'd be taking away some people's life - including mine (I'm a Christian).

No. Banning religion is as bad as the state enforcing any other belief system on its population.
