In America it is soccer. American football is a form of "Rugby Rules Football" (google the history of Rugby, basically some guy at school at (wait for it) Rugby picked up the ball and ran with it playing an early version of Soccer) -- It became popular here first, so football here refers to that. Elsewhere, football usually means what we call soccer.

Get real! Most of the world will talk about football. The game they're referring to however is what the Americans have chossen to call soccer. It's rare that a foreigner to America knows or follows American Football. I'd like to follow the game but living in Thailand with a satalite dish as my only possible means of television has made it unavailable. A valid URL to a station who shows much American football coverage, also through a satalite dish (for my only available internet connection), would be appreciated when sent to waltersuphap@yahoo.com. The answer to your question is of course SOCCER. Football to the rest of the world.
Could someone finally kick the ball? Most of us would like to get started!

FIFA - the governing body of "soccer", stands for Fédération Internationale de Football Association, if they say Football, its football. Oh and by the way the funny thing about common sense is that it is a supposition that is based upon what is most commonly agreed upon. following this principle, wouldn't common sense in this situation dictate the correct term be football, next time site your source correctly.

The confusion has been caused by the Americans calling their favourite sport 'Football' and their refusal to acknowledge real 'football' ie (soccer to them )
