I have heard that the best place to have an infants carseat is in the middle seat of the backseat. They say this because (1) this will ensure that if you are in an accident the side airbags dont hit the carseat/child. (2) most accidents are side impact collisions and put the baby at risk. Has anyone else heard this?

I've been hearing that the safest place for the car seat is the middle back seat since long before side air bags. The reason is because the child will not be thrown against the back of the front seats if the car is rear ended, the worst that might happen is that the child is thrown upon the console between the frotn seats, if a child is thrown against the back of one of the front seats the force could break the child's neck. So which would be better? A child with a broken neck or maybe a couple of bruised/broken ribs from hitting the center console...BTW if in the rear end accident the car is totaled, the child stands a much better chance of practically walking away maybe scratched and bruised but alive...if the car is totaled and he is thrown against the back of a front seat he may not survive...

Yes, I have heard this too. My son is 7 weeks old, and when in the car we always have his seat mounted facing the rear in the center. Recently I made life easier on my wife and I by purchasing another base for the car seat, so we don't have to constantly move it from my truck to her car... It's a time saver. Good luck, and happy parenting!

I have heard that is the safest place I worry about it every time I put my babies in the car since I have twins I am unable to put them both in the middle.

Yes.

And you know they're supposed to be facing the back until they're 1 year old AND 20 lbs., not 1 yr OR 20 lbs (meaning, if you have a 20-lb nine-month-old, still supposed to be rear facing.)

when my son was a baby, i always put him in the middle because they say it is the safest. also want to have the seat as tight as it can be without any play and movement which is also the best
