I will never use Depo again. I gained weight (never had before), was extremely emotional and didn't have my period for so long (did not go back for another shot). Then I couldn't stop bleeding-I think I bled for a month and a half. I think we're guinea pigs at this point, that the side-effects are not entirely known. However, some women, like my friend have absolutely no problem (or, at least, don't attribute any problems to the Depo).

I was ok when I was on it, no periods, didn't really put much weight on, but when I finished with my boyfriend and stopped having the injection I had pretty much a non stop period for about 6mths...well 3 or 4 days of fairly heavy bleeding, then it'd stop for a couple of days, then the same again, for 6 months in total. I also completely lost my sex drive for another year after that and felt depressed. Eventually, 18 months after my last injection, I felt fairly normal. I wouldn't recommend depo provera to anyone, if anyone wasn't keen on the pill because of remembering to take it or if they are ill I'd say get the implant cos at least that can be taken out. Once you've had the injection there's nothing you can do about it, and in my case you have problems for some time after you stop having it

I had the absolute worst experience with the depo shot. I became very, very depressed to the point where I ended up staying in the hospital. My emotions were out of control. I felt so horrible every day. The worst part was that it lasted 3 months in my system and there was nothing I could do, but wait it out. I hated it. It was a crap experience, and I will never use depo again

After being at the same weight for years, I gained 5lbs in one week. I will never do that again. If you want birth control you don't have to worry about, try the ring. You put it in once a month and it release hormones similar to birth control pills.

I tried it once. And never again. I had a period that lasted four weeks! Then continuous spotting... it's not for everyone.
