Most of us have some degree of hymen - a piece of skin that covers part of teh vaginal opening. This rips when we have sex the first time, unless we're one of the ones born without much of a hymen, or unless it got torn before (it's been known to happen in girlhood by participation in certain sports, by falling on fences, etc. and some don't remember it happening if they were young enough.)
Also, anxiety about our first experiences can make women tense up a bit. The best way to experience a first time, for a female, is in a relationship of absolute trust, with a patient partner who spends time getting the girl really ready (lots of foreplay so she's very relaxed, very horny, and very wet).
Even then, it can hurt, but it's likely to be worse if she's rushed, nervous, tense, not wet, not relaxed, afraid a parent or sibling will walk in, etc.
Maybe you shouldn't try again until she's healed, and ready. Try other forms of intimacy first - use your hands, go oral, etc. You'll be building trust as well as her desire, more than likely.

It hurts because the vaginal muscles are sensitive and probably close so the stretching hurts quite a bit. The hymen is what rips and probably what hurts the most. Sometimes it may bleed. Though the hymen could also be ripped other ways than just sex, such as horseback, bicycling, being fingered, or even if you have a bad fall. No, it is not damaging, it just hurts. If your girlfriend is scared, perhaps you should wait until she feels ready. When she is relaxed, is the time when it will hurt the least.

The hymen rips open (little covering in there that people usually use to determine if a girl is a virgin or not). Some girls have really strong hymens and it makes it hurt even worse.
Use extra lube, be gentle, go slowly... maybe she wants to masuterbate on her own a bit first to make it less painful.
Or have her on top during sex, so she can control how much to go in (though for me it was better with the guy on top b/c I woulda been too scared to control it and woulda stopped...).

For some girls it is painful due to the stretching of the vagina and or breaking of the hymen. If she is super nervous it will just make it worse. Try having more foreplay and focus on getting her excited. It may take a few tries before she lets you in all the way.
Think about it...If it hurt to put your penis in there...would you want to do it again?

You both are too young to be having sex—I don't think you wanted to know that.
