The way I do it is this, I find it the simplest way.
Lets say £62, if I multiply 62 by 1, then I obviously get 62 because that's the whole number, so i just imagine 1.00 as 100%.
Therefore if i want 23% of £62 say, I multiply 62 by 0.23, there you have it. If I want to take off 23% from £62 pounds then I subtract 0.23 away from 1.00, which equals 0.77, then i multiply 62 by 0.77. (you're multiplying it by 77%)
Or, If I want to add on say 13% onto £62 then I multiply 62 by 1.13 (113%).
Hope this helps, just remember to think of 100% as 1.00

If you cut a cake in half- this is the same as 50% The whole cake being a 100%. Now divide the cake into 4 equal pieces- this is a quarter or 25%. To work out say 30% of a number you multiply that number by 0.30. So 30% of 150 = 150 x 0.30 = 45 All you do is move the decimal point 2 places to the right and then multiply by this number.

As previously stated they are parts of 100,
so 1 = 1% (i.e. 1 = one hundreth part of a hundred)
To make any figure 1 part of 100, first divide it by 100
e.g. 25 divided by 100 = 0.25 (or as fraction 25/100 = 1/4)
Once you have what is 1% of the figure you want, then any given % required can be calculated
- e.g. if you were asked what 30% of some figure (say 40) is, then you first divide 40 by 100 (to get what 1% of 40 is), then multiply by the 30 you were asked about, so :-
- What is 30% of 40?
- 40 divided by 100 = 0.4 (i.e 1% of 100)
- so if 0.4 = 1% of 40
- then 30% of 40 = 30 x 0.4 = 12
expressed as a fraction, this would look like 40/100 x 30 = 12

Well ultimately it is YOUR decision and choice and what you feel is 'pressure' from them you might want to reconsider as Wise Counsel from the Prophet. Do you think YOU KNOW better than HE does with regard to such matters? You need to be honest with your Stake Pres. of course but you may make an attempt at some HUMILITY and seeking what the Lord desires for you instead of what YOU want for you. Surely seeking the Lord's direction in this matter should be your ultimate goal should it not? From a mother's stand point I will just tell you my perspective. My son just left on his mission. I recognize that 19 is the ideal choice for an age to serve because it is really where the road divides - young men either go with full heart and sincere intents at 19 or....if they put it off they OFTEN do not go later because other things become of a higher priority and take precidence in life - education, relationships, marriage, sexual intimacy, pregnancy... STUFF happens. It's just the reality. SO - if you wanted to go badly enough, sincerely enough and if your faith was focused on what the LORD wants for you - then you would serve NOW and put aside YOUR wants & desires for the Lord and trust that all things will work together for your good AFTER those two devoted years of service in His church & kingdom. Probably not the view you wanted to hear but it is mine nonetheless. WHERE your heart is, is what matters most. ONLY YOU can decide if it is with the Lord truly & sincerely - or not and then you must be honest about those feelings regardless of what leaders or parents think say or pressure you with.

Donot get frustrated.Per cent smply means per hundred.so if you get 40 marks out of 50 in ur school examination and are asked to find out the percentage, you are simply asked what would have been your score if the examination full-marks were100. kThere is an easy way to calculate percentage.you got 40 out of 50,so if it is converted into fraction it will read 40/50.Now just multiply the fraction by 100 and you get the percentage. In this case the answer is 40/50 X 100=80% Similarly 2 out of 5 is2/5 X100=40%.just make it a fraction and multiply the numerator by 100 and reduce it....you get the percentage.Enjoy!

Hi Linda, when doing percentages (%) you are comparing one number against another as a hundreth part.
so 50% of 80 is the same as asking for
50/100 of 80 and 25% of 12 is the same as
asking for 25/100 of 12
1) 50/100 x 80 = 40
2) 25/100 x 12 = 3
Hope this helps - Good luck

just picture the number out of the total. for example 40 out of 100 is 40 % because 40/100 on base one hundred is just 40 with a % sign. Now if it is 12/125, then it is base 125 so its 12% in base 125 or 10.41% base 125. You can get this answer by deviding 125 by 12. So basicly to get an answer devide the bottom number by the top number in a fraction and just add a % sign.

The word "percent" or words "per cent" mean out of 100. In other words, you can always change a percentage to X/100 or X divided by 100. Another way to think of it is to move the decimal place two places to the left. That will also give you a decimal equivalent. Good luck!

I had the same problem when I was at school due to the method they wanted us to use. I can now do it "their" way but still use the method that got me through my exams aswell.
The way in which I was taught is...
24% of 200 for example is 24 divided by 200 and multiplied by 100.
The way in which I understood it myself was 1 percent of 200 mutliplied by 24.
Either way works.
Good luck.

when thinking about percentages it is best to think of it as a fraction out of 100! so 20% = 20/100
so say on a test you got 47 out of 100 that would be 47% now i know that is obvious!
but more complicated!
say you got 45 out of 60, to work out the pecentage, the simplest way would be: (45/60)x100=75%
using this basic method, you can work out the percentage equivailent of any fraction!
i hope that this helps!!
