An enema isn't so bad.
·Yes you will have to expose your rear end, and the doctor will probably want you to wear a paper gown. But, the doctor will let you change in private.
·The Doctor will have you lay down on a table, on your stomach, and he will insert a tube into your rear end. If you clench up you can try to stop it, but the doctor usually just pushes harder, so don't do it.
·Once the tube is inserted it will have water and chemicals in it and the doctor will force that liquid inside your colon.
·After the exam is over then the doctor will let you get up and go to the bathroom, in private.

After you clean up you can get redressed the enema should have no lasting effect on you.

I know it is embarrassing to think about, but if you need it then it is important to get one. I am older than you are and I have had a lot of experience with doctors, including a colon exam. If you want to contact me via my Avatar then I can answer any other questions you have in private, you will also need to tell me exactly WHY you are getting the enema. Are you backed up, do you need an x-ray, is this a colon exam, what. The chemicals and the reasons change for each procedure.

If you are worried about being embarrassed then I can tell you I have had it done and a lot more embarrassing things (like having a fiber optic sent through the penis to inspect my bladder). I am not happy about this, but I do have an idea of how you feel.

An enema can be either a horrible experience or at best a not too unpleasant one. It really depends on you and why you are getting the enema.

As for the "you" part. If you try to tense up or you deliberately try to keep from getting it in some way like that, then you are in for a very uncomfortable time. Squeezing your cheeks together will not stop the procedure from happening. With a lot of lubricant and more force from whomever is giving you the enema, the nozzle WILL go in, like it or not.

The best thing you can do is relax as much as possible during the insertion of the nozzle as well as taking in the fluid in your intestines. The more you relax, the easier the fluid flows into you to allow it to do what is required.

I know this might not be easy, especially if it is the first time and if someone you don't really know is giving you the enema.

Yes, you will have to take your clothes off from the waist down. This is to prevent any "accidents" from soiling your clothing and to make it easier for the enema to be administered.

You will be instructed to lay down, usually on your left side with your right knee drawn up toward your chest. This is considered the best position for easy insertion and for easy flow of the liquid going into your system.

Depending on why you are being given the enema, you will be given a specific type of solution as well as a specific amount. If it is just for constipation then about a quart of water with some castile soap in it will be all you need to take to have a good result and relieve the constipation so you will feel much better when it's over.

If it is for a medical exam, it would depend on the type of exam. You may be given a larger amout of water with castile soap so the you are cleaned out much deeper than would be necessary for constipation. The doctor needs to have a clear view as deep as possible.

Another type of medical procedure may require a second enema called a barium enema. After your first cleansing enema of soap and water, you would be given a second one that has barium in the solution that will show up clearly on an xray. After all the xrays are taken then you will be allowed to relieve yourself of the barium solution.

In this case you don't have to worry about losing the solution because they will use an inflatable nozzle that will prevent that. It's a small balloon on the end of the nozzle that is inflated to keep the nozzle from slipping out and works as a seal to keep the solution inside you until it's time to let it out.

After any enema, you will be allowed to expel the contents of your bowels in a bathroom in private. You should not be embarrassed by it because when it comes out, you just won't have any control of it due to the solution. It's like a real bad case of the runs. When it is all said and done, you will feel a whole lot better.

Good luck and be sure to RELAX.

If this procedure is necessary then go forward. The first time will be uncomfortable. They will have you remove your clothing from the waist down and cover you with a sheet. Then squirt the solution. You will need to lay still for about 3 minutes, then all of a sudden you will feel the urge to rush to the bathroom. Don't worry, just run ... everything will be out of your system and you will feel great when it's over. This is the procedure taken when a person has become constipated and the enema will help alleviate the discomfort of being constipated. In the future, watch what you eat.

why do you want to have enema its for health or are you going to have a**l sex?
It doesn't hurt but do make you feel uncomfortable once all the water are inside and you do need to go to bathroom really quick, so might not be a bad idea to take off your cloth. Sitting down or lying down will be easier and try to relax. You will be going to bathroom A LOT afterward and some time even few hours later you will need to go again. It will go like "waterfall" at first....
Good luck

I'm an xray technologist. An enema is pretty scary! Especially for someone of your age, but just try and relax with it. You may feel some discomfort as the fluid starts to fill your colon, but breath slowly. It's different if it's a cleansing enema, or a diagnostic enema for like medical exam and stuff. They will use some type of lube for the enema tip. It won't be that big. Mabe the size of your thumb. In all, just try to relax through it. It won't be fun, unless you like things like that! Good Luck...

Milk does not belong in the colon in the form of an enema. People can die putting stuff up their butts into their colons. Don't do it. Are enemas stimulating - not to me but I'm not one to judge but don't make it milk or anything else that wouldn't normally be found in an enema. Maybe plain water is ok but still, yuk. I don't find pooping stimulating anytime.
