OK, seriously ... The brain IS the person. The real question is "How long can the brain live without the body?". My guess is only a few seconds. During the French Revolution, the executioners would occasionally ask the poor sap that was about to be beheaded to blink for as long as they could after their head was cut off. They were trying to answer the same question that you are asking. Some blinked for almost 30 seconds - Don't quote me on that though, I just remember reading it somewhere. Why they even complied is beyond me.
PS - Most died immediately, thank God!
