however, autistic people who cannot communicate or use language are still human.

so are people in comas.

so are unborn children.

Well, not that this makes you inhuman, but if you don't learn some sort of language when you are a child (spoken or symbolic) then your brain does not develop properly. In that sense, it is necessary possess language to be a normally functioning human.

I would think so. Some animals have language but that does not make them human.

yup -- our ancestors didn't have language the way we would define language. our president doesn't have language the way a linguistics professor would define language.
