I've always wondered this.... what happens if an already alcoholic/drug abuser woman finds out she is pregnant and wants to keep the baby? What kind of treatment does she have to go through in order to ensure a safe pregnancy (assuming she wants to quit).....?

The only safe way is to get off of the alcohol/drugs as soon as you find out that you are pregnant. If you don't and you continue to use and abuse that baby could be hurt and or go through drug withdrawels and have to go through rehab sort of the way that you would have to do. If a baby is born to a herion addicted mom it will more than likely be addictied at birth itself. If you know someone like this try your hardest to get them to stop now before its to late. By the way in Michigan the state can take the baby at birth if born to an addicted mother.

stop drinking alcoholic beverages , take no more drugs. The mind is a powerful thing. Just keep telling yourself that you can do it for the baby. Eat right and do some walking. Just stay away from the old friends. That is the real secret of kickin the habit. Wait til the baby is at least a year old or when you're finished breast feeding, to start dabbling in it again. Not that that is the right thing to do either. My point is The Baby Comes First

the baby will be born addicted, which is horrible, and could cause the baby to be born with downs syndrome. The hospital tests all babies for drugs in it's system, which means CPS is called and the baby usually is put into foster care until the mother is completely drug free and goes to parenting classes. Even with all that drugs are so hard to stop doing.

if shes abusing and gets pregnant the infant is likely going to be adversely effected before she knew she was pregnant, they tell you now if you plan to get pregnant start clearing your system of every negative chemical agent a year before you expect to get pregnant, that stuff messes things up for a long time. the kind of treatments i dont really know , after shes pregnant, she should stop drugs and eat right, but most dont have the strength to quit.

Depends on what is being abused and to what extent.
