NOT DELL !!! As a repair person, I advise you to stay away. Anyone that says Dell is the best, got lucky and got a good one. It happens. Not every single Dell is junk, but the odds are against you. If you don't believe me, search the web and see if you can find any info on class action lawsuits Dell has been involved in. Also, check some tech boards and read some stuff that real computer enthusiast are saying about different brands and models. Most Dells use Dell parts that will only work on Dells. If something like a power supply goes out, you can't buy a power supply from a local dealer that is better and cheaper. You have to go back to Dell and buy a Dell costly Dell power supply. Also, Dells are notorious for being difficult to upgrade and repair.
Just an idea, before you spend the money on a new computer, try to reformat your hard drive and reinstall windows. You might be suprised how well your computer runs then. Good luck.

The best computer is one you have built. But, not by Dell, HP or (especially) Gateway. Both Dell and HP are better than Gateway. Usually it is the Customer Service people complain about with these companies.
What you get with these companies is the Warranty, sometimes good Customer Service, and a lot of stuff you don't need on a computer (like AOL). The only good thing about getting a Proprietary system is the deals they sometimes have, especially if it involves a good LCD Monitor. The worse thing is many of Proprietary systems are; you cannot easily upgrade using generic parts. You may have to buy the upgrade from the company that made the PC, and they ALWAYS charge 15% - 30% more than market value.
The best type of computer to get is one that is specially built for you by a reputable PC shop. This way you get exactly what you want. The downside is the cost of the Monitor and Graphics cards if you need specialty components. Most PC can be built for less than $400.00 without the Monitor or high-end Graphics Card.
Virtual Memory: you cannot "fill up" virtual memory permanently. But, you can fill up a hard drive to a point where VM has virtually no room to be used efficiently. Each time you reboot your computer, the VM is reset to empty. VM uses a portion of your hard drive to work, and you can set the amount you may need. VM is "temporary RAM" used when your RAM is full or near to full. VM is also used when you have programs opened, but not currently using them.
If all that is wrong with your old PC is what you listed, then that is an easy fix. Get a good virus protection such as FREE AVG, good (FREE) firewall like Zonealarm and get ad-aware and other free PC protection. DO NOT rely on Microsoft's firewall and other services. They are about as effective as a Kleenex Tissue used as a wash/face cloth. Also, Defrag the hard drive... this will reclaim some of the space lost.
Delete programs and files you no longer need or use. Put in a 2nd hard drive if you need. There are many ways to keep an older PC running with less cost than a new PC if the PC really doesn't need to be changed.

Maybe your computer is not that bad after all. What I would suggest is that you format your hard drive to remove all traces of advare, programs bit and pieces. Upgrade some component like a faster video card and add new faster RAM. Finally tweak your operation system so like you say : virtual memory is full! Actually the virtual memory is best when it is full but it needs to be defraged. Stop adding nonsense software, protect your PC with adequate anti-virus and spyware and you should have a decent computer. If want to buy wait till a new motherboard comes out and you will see a drastic price drop in the older ones; then will be a good time to buy a new one.

I agree, get a Mac.
However, don't waste time getting the lowest priced Mac. Go at least one step up. So, if you were going to get an iMac, then don't get the $999 version, but instead get at least the $1199 version. The experience is worth it.
The lowest prices are just for people who are afraid of spending money for value. Instead, such people confuse the price with value. Value comes with what you are getting in exchange, it doesn't have much to do with price.
Compare value and you'll discover a Mac will save you time and money in the long run over MS Windows based computers and Linux based computers. How much is your time worth to you?

The latest MacBook. It can run either a Windows OS or a Mac OS, but it has a built-in virus blocker, so you won't be getting 1,000,000,000,000,000 viruses per day! (You won't even get one.) It also has a built in video camera on the top of the monitor, so you can take digital pictures with a program that comes with the MacBook called photo booth, instead of a $4,000 camera!
Trust me, that computer rocks.

NO! do not, i repeat do not buy a dell because dell uses customs parts for their PCs and if something break or you want to upgrade some of your hardware, you can't go to your local computer store and just buy the parts. you have to order them directy from Dell.
Dell = Hell. Get an Apple

What I Suggest for you to do is first to decide what you want your computer to do for you and after you are sure about your wants, go to www.pcworld.com and check their reviews on PC's. HP is a good brand and they have one of the best tech support service around but only you can be the judge as to what kind of machine you need and how much you want to sped.
Good luck
