I have to write a literature review using the Toulmin model but I don't know how. My professor really didn't give very good directions on how to go about it.

you start with a statement:

"Metamorphosis, by Franz Kafka, is an illustration of the danger of conformity running rampant in society."

you then provide supporting facts:

"The main character awakes one morning to find that he has changed into a disgusting creature because he has not stood up for himself."

a connection from the statement to the fact is made:

"When people do not stand up for themselves, it usually results in conformity, usually involuntary."

proof is next:

"Kafka was concerned about conformity in his time."

qualifiers are next:

"The story definitely shows Kafka's fears and warnings regarding conformity."

rebuttals are last:

"Unless Kafka was absolutely mad and writing nonsense, then 'Metamorphosis' can be seen as a cautionary tale."

I was given the site below to use as a guide on how to write my lit review. Not too sure about the Toulmin model though. Hope this helps!

By the way, my Prof didn't really give us good directions on how to go about it either. I guess they do this on purpose.
