That is a good question. This is what I know about coin collecting; they are based on how rare it is as in how many were made and how many left, they are also based on condition of the coin too. That is how they determined how much it is worth. I would suggest go to a library or book store ( you don't have to buy the book), or a coin dealer shop or coin collecting fair to do some research before trying to get money for it or you could get ripped off. Please read the instruction on how to read the coin collection book before going to the page where the coin is described, because it can be confusing to determined how much it is worth if you are going to look at a book. Hope yours is worth something, good luck.

You probably have an 1863 Indian Head Penny. The head is a representation of Lady Liberty wearing an Indian headresss.
They minted 49,840,000 of them and they were designed by James B. Longacre.
Depending on the condtion of your coin, it may be worth $5 to $55.

you need to take it to many coin dealers so that you can get several opinions. coin dealers are sketchy at times, so that is why i recommend taking it to several dealers. but, in the end, they should be able to give you a lot more information on the coin, along with the value of it. it takes a trained eye to tell the value of antiques/coins.

does it say "our country" or "United States of America"
