Great place. BUT you will need a full length leather coat and your wife a full length fur coat. Nothing else stops the wind. You can buy one there (or borrow from your relations) and a hat. A Russian fur hat. Now, Russia consists of Moscow, St Petersburg and the bush. You do not say where you are going. Moscow and St Pete's are cosmopolitan cities and believe me, they have supermarkets that would put some Western supermarkets to shame. Russia has come a long way, it's just about past the Klondike stage - it is lively, vibrant and fun. And expensive - if you wind up in the wrong places. (Avoid anything "New Russian" - you can't afford it) Always treat authority there with respect and make sure you know where your money, passport and credit cards are. Always. Every moment. Schools are much better than in many western countries - really ! - (over there, it is the parents job to make sure kids can read and write BEFORE they go to school!) health care is also surprisingly good. They do have a different view of things, though. One thing you should remember: In the West Yes means Yes and No means No. In Russia Yes means Yes and No means - How much? Oh! And tell your wife that she will need very clean, classy clothes for show - Russian women do not have a "just fallen out of bed" look - tracksuits and "throwing something on" does not feature in their lifestyle. (Please do not take offence, I am sure your good lady is always very smart - it's just to let you know)

well, it largely depends on where you go. Moscow and St Pete's are the same as all the other big cities in the world (except for public transportation), smaller towns often seem to be 50 years behind the civilized world.
The weather is hardly predictable, but it's not gonna be hot during your visit :) I started wearing gloves couple days ago. The schools used to be very good, and are getting worse now. Lots of homework!
Teens - like anywhere in the world - like to hang out together. Most women have to work and to do all the housework, too.
Send me a note if you want to know something more specific and enjoy your visit!

Well, each day, the sun rises from the east and sets in the west. People get to work during the day and go home when they get off work. It can get quite cold during the winter, so you need to bundle up.
