would they kill each other or what would happen?

I know for a fact that rats will kill mice. (Didn't do it on purpose--the mouse got put in the rats' cage and they almost immediately attacked it and killed it).
So I would expect that the rat would attack the hamster. Or vice versa. If they were put in a neutral location, say a bathtub or cage that neither one had ever been in, they might ignore each other as they look for a way out.
But, if you put one in the other's cage, the 'owner' of that cage would attack the newcomer.

Okay Im going to explain as much as a can: 1. Females can be stubborn at times so yes I think it is better to get males, but they are more messier (like when they go to the bathroom) and are a little bit nasty. 2. It would not be a problem at all if you don't get them neutered. But neutering them would make some of their body odor go away. 3. Males rodents will always fight but if you get more than one males it might be okay. You can always keep females together though (just make sure they really are female or male) 4. I'm pretty sure they would be safe but then again this isn't a dog or something and they can bite in a second just at a touch of the head especially if you get males. The are also a little bit jumpy and won't just sit in her hand or something and will try to run away. 5. They eat once a day or sometimes every two days and you can just leave a bowl in there, but it depends what age they are. (the more older the less they eat). And wih snacks you can feed those to them every day yes. 6. Buying them from petsmart is good, and if you find the right person to help you they can tell you which ones are good. But when you o there look for the one that is walking around or at least moving. The ones sleeping could be sick or old and you don't want that.

Nothing would happen. The two are similar enough in size that neither would have an advantage over the other. Rats are omnivorous -- they will eat anything, but they aren't usually hunters. And hamsters don't generally attack other animals either. The only qualifier would be if the female rat had babies and the male hamster tried to get near them, she would vigorously defend them, and that means biting and kicking.

Hamsters are extremely territorial and are solitary creatures. The rat is consideranly larger than the hamster. Someone will either get killed or very hurt.

for a few days nothings then one will try 2 dominate,so therefore the rat will win by killing the poor hamster with its teeth.kinda like a ratty gladiator fight except both fear each other.

well first off, most hamsters are solitary animals ( except the dwarfs) and will not do well with ANYTHING else in thier cage.
second, the rats is much bigger and may attack the hamster.
BUT rats are severly social, and should NEVER be house alone. so get another rat
