It just has the parental lock on.
Here is the procedure to reset the parental lock code:
Bring up a screen where the unit asks you to enter in the parental code. You can either insert a restricted disc, or enter the DVD setup menu and go to "parental control" under custom setup.
When the screen asks for the code, press the SELECT button, then enter in the code "7444".
The level adjustment under Parental Control dictates the strictness of the player. The lower the value, the more strict it will be. Either increase the value to lower the restriction, or disable the lock entirely by setting it to "off".
Once you have made your adjustments, be sure that the DVD tray is empty, and press the RESET button on the front of the Playstation 2. It is imperative the tray is clear of any DVD or game for the unit to save your settings.

Every PS2 does that if you buy the hard drive for the PS2 it will come with an update for the DVD player and you wont have to enter the code anymore.

if you have the code then this will be easy to do all you would have to is play a dvd hit the select or square button on your controller to bring up a menu look around the menu for setup then go to costom then go to parental control enter your password then set level to off and you can do the same steps to change password but you have to know the password thats in there and yes i found a manual

Yes. Put in a DVD and then push your select button after inputting your code. Then select the option menu and it will then direct you to what level you want to have the parental settings on. Set it to 0 then you are good to go. If that doesn't work let me know and I will reset mine and I will walk you through it.
