I have, and have had pretty good luck. Last ones I got were from shoebuy.com.
Here is the best thing you can do.
1. Get fitted properly. Most shoe stores can do this. Ask to see a floor manager or someone with some experience. Once you are satisfied, look through the inventory for the shoes you like.
2. Find a coupon. Shoebuy coupons are here: http://www.24houredeals.com/shoebuy-coupons-73-mer.html This can save you 10-20% from the store.
3. Make sure you try them on, as some have limited times for returning your items.
One last hint. If you do make a purchase online, and there is a local store, you may or may not be able to return them there. Check with the individual website policies.

Yes; if I am familiar with a brand and know they fit me well and are good quality, I prefer to shop online (I hate malls). My favorite shoe website online is for Mason Shoes, but there are many to choose from.

Yes, I do. I have bought several pairs of boots and shoes online for myself and my family. I have used shoebuy.com, onlineshoes.com, Victoriassecret.com, cabelas.com etc. I have returned shoes that did not fit. You usually get a postage paid UPS label. It's free for an exchange. You pay shipping for a straight return. The cost is deducted from your refund.

It's a bad idea I think, many shoes that are my size are not comfortable because shoes are not made with identical foot models and are very tight-fitting. Better to go to a store.

I do - but have found that when I order from Old Navy, I never have to worry about the size being wrong as I have had at other places

SHOETRADER.COM is very good. they have a good selection of prices and sizes. also Free Shipping! I haven't needed to return anything but I understand that they will pay for that too- so no gamble, even better than paying for gas.
