"The Verdict."
I love Newman, with his beautiful blue eyes, but this is the film that had stuck with me the longest. He just looked like life had totally beaten him (And his alcoholism doesn't help matters), but it takes one case to put the spark back into his career and life. It's also heartbreaking. His relationship with Charlotte Rampling is just as painful.

Probably 'Hud'. He does a great job playing a heel, completely overpowering everything else in the frame, even the scenes with Patricia Neal, who plays a most alluring older woman.
'Cool Hand Luke" would be a very close second, followed by 'The Hustler'.
Paul Newman is a very nice man, too. He picked me up hitch-hiking back in '74 or '75, taking me from Malibu to Point Dume. Very nice man.

My favorites are Cool Hand Luke and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. They are both movies that get you so involved with the characters that you feel you know them.

"Cool Hand Luke"
Not only does it have some classic lines, but Luke himself is epitome of the 20th century American anti-hero. Plus Luke is just plain "cool."
