Why does it sound like you all think death is a negative thing? What if it is the price you pay to get on the boat to a swell new adventure?
I've seen death. For example, I watched my own grandmother die from cancer. Her leaving the body was a release more than a sorrow. One second she was in pain and couldn't breathe. The next second, the light went out, and her spirit rose in triumph.
Death is not an end. Death is the closing of one door to open another into a whole new world. Nothing and no one passes fully away.

I've seen someone dying, of cancer. The hardest thing to watch with a smile on my face. Anyone who's had the same experience knows what I mean.
She said she wanted to get up. She wanted to walk out of there. I insisted the nurses come and put her in the lifting device so as to get her out of bed at least. It was the last time she was strong enough to leave her bed.
I'm crying even now, almost three years later. I pray to God I never have to go through what she went through. Though she did do it with a smile on her face....

Yep, I was a volunteer Firefighter/ETT for a while. My first ambulance assist was a rollover victim. I was looking into his vacant eyes giving him chest compressions in the emergency room when the doctor called it. I'll never forget that, never. The doctor had to tell me twice to stop compressions. Deep brown eyes like my own. I can still see them but I'm alright with it now. l didn't sleep that night though. I never learned his name.
I still remember my last call too. But that is a different question.
Life is precious.

Yes I seen my mother die and it was nothing nice cause it scared me and I did not want to see her go. To me she fought death and was not ready to live me and her family. I never ever seen anyone else die and this episode hurted me real deep. It have been one year and I am still having problems coping with her death. I experience my mother spirit come out her body and ascend upward into the corner of the room and I turn and left as I was in a scooter chair. Later they came and told me she was dead and inwardly I already knew but I was in denial.

On more than one occasion... The last breath leaves, sometimes they were conscious, other times their system was too far gone for them to know what was going on... Some were relatives, others were victims of car wrecks that i responded to (during the EMT phase of my life). Sorry, no words of wisdom or philosophy, i just got tired of it after awhile....although i did see their faces when i went to sleep at nite, but that doesn't happen any more.

I have not seen a human die, but seeing someone less than 4 hours after death is still haunting and disturbing.

Death and I are old friends. I have seen a number of people die in one form or another. Of them, the only one that really affected me was one aprticular incident in August of 1985, I was in a car wreck with my first wife and she died in my arms. Not only did I see her die, but I heard the last gasp of air as it left her body and I felt the life drain out of her as it happened. It is as clear in my mind today as it ws 21 years ago....

Never that particualr moment. But a few minutes earlier ( alive ) or a few minutes later ( dead). It moved me. I caught hold of that thought/ feeling in me and traced back its origin. Surprisingly it was one of relief for me. till then death was very scary, . a sort of being taken away , suddenly, from the midst of people I love.
Since then I am out of fear for death. I felt the sooner someone sees another dying or dead we will never be able to get out of the fear of death.. And , you and I know very well that some day that will happen. why not atleast get out of the fear of it?
One of my "gurus' used to say" Every minute a small part of us is dying , slowly and we donot notice it at all. . When every part of us dies also we do not notice at all( we are not here to notice) "

not a person, but an an animal - twice. both of them were cats. my son had accidentally slammed our 8 week old kitten's head in the front door. Pretty sure its poor neck got broken. It died in its catbox, but the hard to breathe sounds were terrible before it died. Another cat we had came in from outside once, ran under the Christmas tree, convulsed, then dropped dead. Some sort of fluid came out of its mouth, burning a patch on the carpet.
