I had a neighbor confess she had an affair with a married man while she was married and claimed it helped his marriage. She rationalized her adultry was a good thing. How warped.
Have you ever rationalized something that you should have taken responsibility for as a mature adult would?

I have noticed that people do tend to rationalize their bad behavior, I think it is because they feel guilty. I have come to realize that admitting fault and moving on is the best. But you know the ole saying "ignorance is bliss" and sometimes I still like to feel bliss.:)

Nothing comes to mind but I know I have. I bet most people probably have. Of course I think there is degrees of this. Your story is pretty up there.
Another bad behavior trait is blaming someone else as being in the wrong. I had a woman say nasty things about me and then when confronted she got angry at me and turned it around so I was in the fault.

The devil made me do it. It was all the devils fault. God she made me eat the apple. God the snake made me eat the apple. The sin wasnt the apple the tree or anything like that the SIN was pointing the finger and blaming someone else for our own actions. SO we could do nothing else but deny the whole point of the story and blame eve and every other women and create a devil to blame. Our whole society is based on the denial of personal responsibilty. So we can keep blaming everyone else.

NO!! NEVER!!! HOW DARE YOU ASK, MISSY??? YOU. . .YOU. . .ROTTEN PERSON, YOU!!!!
I'm never rude and rationalize my nasty behavior. . .why should I? Just because my parents were mauled to death by rabid dingos when I was four and they were on their way to pick me us from the hospital after five surgeries for mildewed liver. And at the funeral, my brother got run over by a train while trying to rescue our crippled poodle, who'd just killed our poor blind, deaf cat. I deserve to be able to do whatever I want after all my suffering!
(Pauses, slaps self.)
OK, that's better. Seriously, I think we all rationalize things -- that's the immature side of us that doesn't want to take responsibility for what we do wrong. It's one of the less savory sides of human nature.

human beings basically p.c. to be comfortable. That woman isn't staying on chocolate because of the fact " it has antioxidants", ( darkish chocolate does technically), she suggested it because of the fact she desires to make herself sense greater well-off with the actuality that she is acquainted with it is not solid for her yet she tries to make herself have faith that's via asserting a in all probability pretend "actuality" like that too human beings so she would be in a position to have faith it too. some how that makes it "ok". that's risky. It relies upon on what that's. something like what that woman suggested is truly no longer something to be hectic approximately, yet whilst it replaced into some one rationalizing approximately how they killed some one then, definite it's time to be hectic.

My brother in law's wife cheated on him while he was in Iraq. Then she tried to say he didn't give her enough attention before he got deployed (total bs). She actually told his mom that she "didn't mean to." His mom's response was "oh, so you were raped?" But now I will always hold the place as the favourite daughter in law....
