to tell a ghost story and have someone jump out into the room. I want to give the kids a scary thrill, but not nightmares. We are going to pass around monster "body parts" and decorate Mexican sugar skulls, but I wanted to do something a little scary too.

If that happened to me when I was 10, I would never sleep again.

I think the skulls and body parts are fine. A lot of parents are not okay with ghost stories. I used to have nightmares and this would have made it really bad for a long time.

I hope the kids have fun!

First, think of each child individually and try to read how well they would be able to handle the experience. There are people well into their 60's that still have nightmares. Ten-year-olds should be able to handle it, but if you honestly think it would cause a problem with one of the children or their parents, ask yourself if it's a risk you're willing to take.

I think it's a great idea.

Instead of passing around the "body parts" we always set it up in a seperate room.... spookier without your friends behind you.

good grief, you are kidding? body parts and skulls? that ought to give them a wonderful memory of that visit, a memory so they won't want to stay over at anyone's house again.
