It wasn't reported by the French. It was reported by a French paper known for sensationalizing issues.

In this case the French DGSE was investigating rumors, but the sources that reported the death were not reliable, so the DGSE did not put a lot of credence into it. But the story forced the DGSE to expend additional resources to investigate a bad tip and it has led nowhere in almost two months.

IT was dismissed so quickly because there was none of the usual signs that go with the death of an al Qaeda leader. The fact that the french reported it has nothing to do with anything. Is it possible that some day he could die of typhoid? Yes but we are not that lucky today.

I honestly do not think that Laden is dead. If pictures were shown of him, it would be hard to believe it is true. Due mostly to the fact of impersonators. The hunt for Hussein revealed numerous impersonators. Think about it, we are talking about a man who took 80 million dollars left by his father and turned it into a 280 million dollar organization. It is also said that he also has his hands in our military, profiting off of all of the sales of any military weapon, vehicle, etc. Also, notice the lack of concern and media coverage of something that is "the highest priority". So due to the fact that the French reported it quickly, or anything else, I honestly do not believe he is dead at all.

Because it doesn't hurt Bush in the media. Don't give me the " not verified crap" here. The media has waged war on the President with little more than rumors most of the time. Pathetic but true. Remember Dan Rather?

Had nothing to do with who reported it, the rumours of his impending death have been around for years even pre 9-11. It makes for good news on a slow day.
