It's a sports thing. Watch closely when the manager takes the pitcher out, usually he'll give him a pat on the rear. And if you watch closely when they zoom in on the dug-out after someone is getting high-fives from everyone after they score or hit a bomb, some people usually give them a teamly smack on the rear. Same in football if you really look for it after they make big catches, runs, ect. The players are usually secure enough in their masculinity enough to not care, I never minded when I played in high-school.

Its a sign of fellow teamwork. You see it in all team sports. And like someone said earlier, I wouldn't mind touching Jeter's butt either, now that would be more than just teamwork. hehehe
