No, you don't need iTunes. You can use various alternative software to transfer your songs. Unfortunately, you can't just drag and drop an mp3 on your iPod hard drive, by default, There a program available called anapod explorer to enable this function, but it is not freeware. You can download a trial version though.

If you are just looking for an alternative program to copy your songs to your iPod, you can try ephpod (freeware). It has kind of an iTunes interface, but it is not restrictive when copying files from one computer to another. iPod/iTunes tries to prevent this, which is annoying.

To those who say iTunes is the best.... I like iTunes for the Mac, but I dislike the Windows version. On my Mac I use iTunes, and on my WIndows PC I use Winamp. I guess I am just an old school Winamp junkie.

I thinkYou can use itunes off line after put in for that. i admire podcasts and function used san disk and zen gamers and function been in a position to click and deliver or drag and drop audio information to my mp3 play yet could decide to sync if i needed video. i take advantage of itune for podcast as a results of fact there is not any DRM yet use Amazon or emusic if I desire to purchase song. maximum gamers incorporate a disk that does the set up however the applying that got here which incorporate your pc could additionally artwork. possibly no longer for Apple. the only mp3 participant i did no longer like develop into the ipod shuffle as a results of fact it had no show show and that i hear to audio books and podcasts . Random chapters no longer stable. i think of different ipods are ok. close to my domicile libraries and occasional shops oftentimes have unfastened internet.

one i have found very useful is winamp eventhough u have to buy the full version of winamp to be able to use the mp3 transfer to ipod...

itunes works great but if u want another program, id use winamp .. (in winamp u just right click on the song and click send to mp3 device and the song will play on the ipod from then on...) very simple... but as mentioned before, u need to buy the full version
