no way of finding the sorce, short of ripping the walls down!!, which I do not want to do.
Do any of you have any suggestions of how i can eradicate this putrid smell?

Call animal control on monday. They'll know what to do.

You should use charcoal briquettes. You could just put them in an egg carton (or more than one carton), and leave it open near the source of the smell. The smell should go away within a week if that's what it is. Good luck! That is really awful.

You really can't do anything but wait for it to go away, except cut open the wall board to get it out. Sorry -

I have not had to deal with this in my home, but when I worked in retail, we had this problem in our storage area -- they had to remove part of the wall to remove the dead mouse . . . at that time, they said there was no other way to deal with it.

open the windows...
we thought that happened to my great aunt, but it was her antique lamps, when the bulb got hot, it heated som 1940 vintage plastic that smelled like the dead!
