Dear,

A blog is a website where entries are made in journal style and displayed in a reverse chronological order.

Blogs often provide commentary or news on a particular subject, such as food, politics, or local news; some function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic. Most blogs are primarily textual although some focus on photographs (photoblog), videos (vlog), or audio (podcasting), and are part of a wider network of social media.

The term "blog" is a contraction of "Web log." "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.

Types of blogs

By media type
A blog comprising videos is called a vlog, one comprising links is called a linklog[8], or one comprising photos is called a photoblog[9]
By device
Blogs can also be defined by which type of device is used to compose it. A blog written by a mobile device like a mobile phone or PDA is called a moblog.[10]
Genre
Some blogs focus on a particular subject, such as political blogs or travel blogs.
Legal status of publishers
A blog can be private, as in most cases, or it can be for business purposes. Blogs, either used internally to enhance the communication and culture in a corporation or externally for marketing, branding or PR purposes are called corporate blogs.
Blog search engines
Several blog search engines are used to search blog contents (also known as the blogosphere), such as blogdigger, Feedster, and Technorati. Technorati provides current information on both popular searches and tags used to categorize blog postings.

Anatomy of a blog entry

A variety of different systems are used to create and maintain blogs. Dedicated web applications can eliminate the need for bloggers to manage this software. With web interfaces, these systems allow travelers to blog from anywhere on the Internet, and allow users to create blogs without having to maintain their own server. Such systems allow users to work with tools such as Ecto, Elicit and Blogger which allow users to maintain their Web-hosted blog without the need to be online while composing or editing posts. Blog creation tools and blog hosting are also provided by some Web hosting companies (Tripod), Internet service providers (America Online), online publications (Salon.com) and internet portals (Yahoo! 360° or Google). Some advanced users have developed custom blogging systems from scratch using server-side software, and often implement membership management and password protected areas. Others have created a mix of a blog and wiki, called a bliki.

A blog entry typically consists of the following:

Title, the main title, or headline, of the post.
Body, main content of the post.
Permalink, the URL of the full, individual article.
Post Date, date and time the post was published.
A blog entry optionally includes the following:

Comments
Categories (or tags) - subjects that the entry discusses
Trackback and or pingback - links to other sites that refer to the entry

These are good questions, especially with all of the buzz around blogging these days.

There is a lot of history that can be shared about blogging, when it began, what it was like originally, etc. but most of that isn't very useful today, so I'll rundown the basics of modern blogging.

A blog in its simplest, purest form is a diary online. A person's blog is where they can go and share with whoever is reading what is on their mind. This comes in the form of daily entries made by the "blogger".

A person's blog is usually either about their personal and work life in general, or about a specific topic that they are interested in. Some blogs even represent a company, or a division of a company, for example, the Official Google Blog (http://googleblog.blogspot.com/).

As for where you can find other people's blogs, a good place to start is Google Blog Search (http://blogsearch.google.com/).

If you are looking for a place to start your own blog, you can go to http://www.blogger.com/ and click the "Create Your Blog Now" button.

Blogs are mostly for the enjoyment of the person writing them - a place to express their ideas and rantings/ravings. While most reasonable bloggers want you to comment on their posts, you should keep this in mind, since it is their blog - their space - you should be courtious to how they think. Just remember that you're a guest on their blog, and keep in mind how a guest should behave. ;) Not that you aren't well-behaved (how should I know?), but people often get too excited and begin ranting at the blogger for something they have said - not polite.

If you want to get down to the nitty-gritties of blogs, you can check out the Wikipedia info at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blog.

Hope this helps!

A Blog, short for Web Log, is an online rant by an individual, which is usually updated frequently. The topics are often political, but sometime's they're as mundane as what was served at breakfast.

Blogs and those who write them (Bloggers) get alot more media attention than they deserve.

I'm glad they're there, as I'm a huge fan of free speech, but I generally don't waste my time reading them.

Blogs are used for people to communicate to the world, their daily activity, or current events. Its a way to just put all your information, say about your daily life into an event planner for the world to see. Others use blogs to talk about new technology, friends, cars, etc.

Its just another form of communication on a larger scale. You can find blogs anywhere, yahoo has them now.
