I am not in the party leadership therefore I cannot say what they will actually do, however I do want them to close the borders and not allow even one more illegal aliens in. I want us to pull out of Iraq, the Iraqi people are in the middle of a civil war and our being there is doing nothing but getting our people killed. They need to decide for themselves what kind of government that they want as they will never accept a puppet government set up by George Bush or America. I would want to build a strong national defense and can do this better by bringing our people home to defend us.
I think the minimum wage if raised would help the economy and the poor at the same time. Because lets face it 10 years is a long time to go without a pay raise.
Health care for everybody. At this time there are 45 million people in the U.S without access to affordable health care this is a shame in a country so rich.
Taxes, I want them to raise taxes on the very rich, lower taxes for the middle and lower classes, it is simple the rich can afford to pay more taxes. The poor and middle classes become better consumers and spend and the money ends back up in the Rich's pockets anyway. There is more but my fingers are falling asleep.

I'm not answering this as a Liberal, but as an American who does not believe that our current course is in our country's best interest.
I can't speak on what the Democratic Party would do different, because there are different opinions on that.
It's the same with the Repulicans, now that respected party members like James Baker and John Warner have voiced reservations about the course of action in Iraq.
The first thing I'd do (something the administration has not done) is actually LISTEN to the generals.
(By the way, are you going to accuse any of these guys of hating America because they don't subscribe to the notion of "staying the course?")
"The problem thus far, as you know, has been lack of serious planning, poor selection of people in charge ... screwed-up assessments and assumptions, no building of international and regional cooperation, trust in non-credible exiles and too much spin and ad hoc-ery. The current bankrupt course we are staying is focused only, or almost only, on security and is not complete even in that area.""
-- Retired Marine Gen. Tony Zinni, who formerly headed the U.S. Central Command, with responsibility for 32 nations, including Iraq and Afghanistan
"Until we back up and assess what we have gotten ourselves into, I fear we will see a repeat of the war in Vietnam. Our military will again fight a series of battles and engagements in Iraq without the overall purpose that a good campaign plan provides."
-- Retired Marine Lt. Gen. Paul Van Riper, who recently called for firing Rumsfeld.
"First, you have to think big. Not stupid big, the way Cheney and Bush and Rumsfeld do, but smart big the way Teddy Roosevelt used to do."
-- Retired Army Col. Larry Wilkerson, the former chief of staff to Gen. Colin Powell at the State Department in President Bush's first term and now an outspoken critic of the administration's policies in Iraq
So I believe the Democratic Party needs to work closely with our military leaders and begin to develop a concrete plan on what exactly our long-term goals in the region are, and what it's going to take to get there. The current administration is apparently not terribly interested in the specific long-term scope of our presence there. "We'll be there as long as it takes to win the war on terror," is NOT a valid strategy.

.. well actually a lot of what lucky2 believe said pelosi said... just don't pay attention to the paranoid rambling after that...
I mean they will fight for a woman's right to choose and for a continued seperation of church and state... but that's about the extent of it...
and also... I've heard several dems discuss placing a deadline on the iraqi war and working with generals to set down some goals that would allow us to leave them as a stable government...
basically set a plan and a deadline by talking with experts... either way... we're still probably going to be there for at least 2 years
which seems to be exactly what Bush doesn't seem concerned with doing... (see above about the generals)

This is what Pelosi has said she would do as your new Speaker.
•Put new rules in place to "break the link between lobbyists and legislation."
•Enact all the recommendations made by the commission that investigated the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
•Raise the minimum wage to $7.25 an hour, maybe in one step. Cut the interest rate on student loans in half. Allow the government to negotiate directly with the pharmaceutical companies for lower drug prices for Medicare patients.
•Broaden the types of stem cell research allowed with federal funds — "I hope with a veto-proof majority," she added in an Associated Press interview Thursday.
•All the days after that: "Pay as you go," meaning no increasing the deficit, whether the issue is middle class tax relief, health care or some other priority.
•To do that, she said, Bush-era tax cuts would have to be rolled back for those above "a certain level." She mentioned annual incomes of $250,000 or $300,000 a year and higher and said tax rates for those individuals might revert to those of the Clinton era. Details will have to be worked out, she emphasized.
•"We believe in the marketplace," Pelosi said of Democrats, then drew a contrast with Republicans. "They have only rewarded wealth, not work."
•"We must share the benefits of our wealth" beyond the privileged few, she added.
Lenin couldn’t have said it better himself. She doesn't mention anything about the war, abortion (baby killing), attacks on Christians and the homosexual agenda, not surprisingly, as these agenda items will be the real priorities once the Democrats do take over.
Here is what you can expect from the “lefties” if the democrats take control of Congress and Pelosi is calling the shots.
•Amnesty for 12,000,000 illegal immigrants and an open borders policy.
•A push to make homosexual marriage and polygamy legal in all 50 states.
•Only liberal judges will be appointed. They will create laws to implement the social agenda liberals cannot get passed through the legislative process.
•Liberals will make the killing of the unborn more difficult to stop.
•Liberals will continue to try to rid our society of Christian influence, including any reference to God in our Pledge and on our currency.
•A return to the "Fairness Doctrine" in broadcasting where opposing views must be given equal time. Every conservative talk show host will be forced to give a liberal equal time on every issue. The purpose of this rule will be to shut down conservative talk shows.
•An increase in taxes to push new social programs.
•Passing a new "hate crimes" law making it illegal to refer to homosexuality in a negative manner.
•Liberals will give terrorists from other countries who try to kill Americans the same rights American citizens enjoy under our constitution.
•We will withdraw from Iraq, sending the message to the terrorists that if they will just be patient they can win and bring their terrorist acts to the U.S.

You know, this is ironic, because of the names of the partys, liberal, you would think would be more about liberating Iraq, but we're not and conservatives you would think would be more about conserving Americans money and lives, but they're not!!! I think if a good liberal got in office, he would wipe Iraq & Iran off the face of this earth take their oil and divide it evenly with other superpowers and quit worrying about towelheads rights and start worrying about Americans rights!!!

Just because one is a liberal doesn't necessarily mean one is a Democrat. I'm a proud liberal and a member of the Green Party -- I lost faith in the Dems and their intention or ability to change anything years ago. See www.gp.org for our ideas for change.
