The black pathers was a civil rights organization who belived in self defense after many years of oppression. I don't think they were racist I think the basis of the panthers was to get equal rights for african americans.

Thank you to Cammi, Chruchthewayseniors, and @-->Erroneous its not being racists at all to all the idiot stupid people who thought that. My grandfather was a black panther and was fighting for rights and who ever said they are racists and should be put in jail are totally wrong and should either read books on it or spend a day in a black persons life back then to see what they really went through!

I grew up with many of their children in the late '80s and early '90s in New York. Not very impressed. I think many of them honestly meant well, but didn't understand (or didn't care) how they came across to other ethnic groups that they demanded respect from.
MLK Jr. gets my vote.

I have a big one tattooed on me. I love them, they are awesome. Their eyes, and fur are beautiful. I would love a black panther bedspread. Been looking on line, there are some super deals out there. but the real thing? Scary, wouldn't want to meet up with one face to face.

when they first started i believe them to be fighting for their rights in this country. as years went by i felt that they were just a club of people that wanted to make a name for themselves.. they caused alot of trouble and i was hoping for them to be organized and do good things for all people...they were educated and capable to do good things, but found that they did not plan for doing good things....they disappointed me and lots of people.....a shame
[i always said that they should go down south and kick the kkk out of town..now that would have been good history and effective......]

Completely illegitimate, racist, paramilitary organization dedicated to the propagation of hate and violence. They're also symptomatic of very serious racial problems and sprang from a sense of powerlessness, but that doesn't excuse their aimless hate-mongering.

They should be arrested and thrown in jail for starting a militia, which is prohibited in our constitution.
