And can I sign up for all sorts of freebees and goverment assistance? And then not pay my taxes?

So then, if I can't be called a Native American, why do we call black people African Americans if they weren't born in Africa?

As for free handouts, no, only the "oppressed" can get that...you know, those who drive Cadillacs and look like they haven't skipped a meal for 20 years.

Lol, you know my uncle always marks the box of "Native American" on census forms, questionnaires, etc. I guess he resents the fact that his ancestors have been living here for several generations and are not called 'native'. All the benefits that "Native Americans" get are a result of the heavy-handed, at times cruel way in which the native peoples were treated by the first Europeans who came to this continent. Having said that, it seems to me to be at least a little unfair that a few hundred years later, we are still paying for what some of our ancestors did. Indeed, many of my friends' families came here only a generation or two ago; is it fair to ask them to pay for people whom they never wronged?

To be a Native American you would have to have ancestors that never immigrated to this country so my answer is no you cannot get free bees or government assistance for being a Native American because you aren't a Native American.

Yes, technically you're right but obviously that is not what the government means by "native American". They mean American Indians, which is obviously a misnomer but that's what they mean.

Well techinically yes you are a native american.

I see people walking down the street with the word "IRISH" or "ITALIAN" printed on their shirt. So one day I asked an "Italian" girl what the capital of Italy was. She didn't know.

If she walked into italy they would point at her and say "AMERICAN!"

ummmmm try it and see what happens white people aren't native Americans you may be native to where you are like if you live in Panama City your native to that but not the native Americans (Indians) they were here first and they got robbed and they should get anything they want for free and black people were slaves so we should at least get a discount on cotton products lol j/k
