i mean sometimes when i'm surfing the web i find that some pages or websites have a lot of pop ups. should i stay away form those. are they infected with some kind of bug or worm u know.

In Ur question,
Generally, everyone knows by real time virus checker as like Norton or MacAfee ram resident program.
I recommend that you should allow pop up. But, you had better put bad website URL in explore tool-option-security-restricted site. It prohibit bad java script.
Anyway, you need anti-virus program and put bad site URL in your restricted site in explore option.

I have a browser attachment called McAffee site advisor. It's really useful! And it's free.

Basically when you do a search, there's one of 3 icons.

Green Check - means that sites is completely clean
Red X - means that site is probably spotted - loaded with viruses and should be avoided
Gray Question mark- Means McAffee did not check this site and is uncertain about it's contents.

The only way you really know is when you get an alert from your anti-virus software on accessing a page. Just keep your anti-virus active and updated, and you should be fine.
