Here's the situation, on my street we have those kind of square mailboxes for 16 houses where everyone gets a key. Basically our mail carrier only has to stop at 6 of these things rather than each individual house. She left a hand written note that said there will be now mail today because of two cars that were parked on the curb infront of the mailbox, it was just that specific mailbox that did not recieve mail. This is an unmarked curb for anyone to park at and the cars vary from day to day (ie different residents or visitors). For her a simple solution would be to park a little past the mailbox and walk down, it's not like she's going from house to house. Our previous mailcarrier had no problems with it. I just want to know if were being punished for her lazyness.

By the way the mailbox is in my front lawn, It is 3 feet away from the curb, the part facing the street is the side where we go into get our individual mail from our own boxes and the part facing my lawn is where the mail carrier can open and insert all the mail. Reguardless if there are cars parked on the sidewalk closest to the mailbox, the mail carrier would have to get out of there truck anyway. Its like theres my driveway, a sidewalk long enough for two cars, and my neighbor's driveway then the next curb to park. If she goes ahead and parks past my neighbors driveway its only a ten feet away to the mailbox rather that that convient three. I hope those extra details make sense.

She left a note just today, written on notebook paper and nobody got there mail. Today was the only day there have been more than two people parked there when she came to deliver the mail.

No. In my area the mail carrier won't put mail in the box if they can't just drop it in. If they have to get out it takes more time if they have alot of boxes on their route that have cars in front of them. They have a certain time limit to get the mail delivered. They also chance getting bit by a dog or something or someone jumping in the truck if they leave it for even a second.

I think it sounds like he or she is being different from your other mail carrier. Don't know the rules for the US Postal Service, call your local post office and ask. As in all other jobs, some people are nicer than others.

No, mail carriers are not allowed to withhold your mail unless you contact the post office requesting your mail to be withheld. Sounds like to me, this certain mail carrier was just being lazy. :o)

i think those things tilt or open some how to expose all boxes, may be she/he could access you box w/o damaging /feared damaging the cars, & yes they can withhold for a number of reasons, stupid people acting a fool, parking in the way, dogs......
fix the problem get your mail

Not in that circumstance. Contact your Congressman. Don't bother complaining to the USPS.
