I saw the movie just a few hours ago. Robin Williams is a hysterical comedian, and the movie simply does not do his comic genius justice. The jokes will make you smirk, but “The Man of The Year” is nowhere near as uproarious as some of his previous films, and it certainly won’t leave you in laughing in painful convulsions, with tears dripping down your cheeks, the way his standup comedy used to.
As the film progresses it becomes less comedic and goes more towards the direction of a thriller. This takes you by a surprise and I have to admit makes you a little disappointed, especially since all the trailers portray the film as a comedy. However, where the film lacks in humorous punch, it more than makes up for in its insight into how dismal our political process is. Some of the most interesting and engaging segments in the film are Williams’ character’s monologues on the great disconnect between our elected officials and the constituency they are supposed to represent. His remarks, especially during the scene of the Presidential debate, where he lambastes the other Presidential candidates and their political cohorts for being in the pockets of lobbyists and big business, are particular scathing and satisfying.
All in all it is mediocre as comedy, lackluster as thriller, but fairly substantive as a critique of the political landscape, and the culture that refuses to call its own politicians to account. If I were to assign a letter grade to it, I would give it a B – .

Didn't Chris Rock already portray the "President" as a comical idiot. Different races same results.

No, I love Robin Williams, my favorite all time comedian. I hope it's good so I can rent the DVD by Christmas.
