Apparently from the answers the USA is once again breaking new ground. None of the countries any of you named have torture of prisoners as a Legal State Policy.

McCain fights exception to torture ban
Ex-POW assails bid to exempt the CIA
By Charlie Savage, Globe Staff | October 26, 2005

WASHINGTON -- Senator John McCain yesterday warned that a push by the White House to exempt overseas CIA agents from a proposed ban on mistreating prisoners in US custody would exacerbate the problem of detainee abuse by giving interrogators legal authority to torture suspected terrorists.

''I don't see how you could possibly agree to legitimizing an agent of the government engaging in torture," said the Arizona Republican, who survived torture as a prisoner of war in Vietnam. ''No amendment at all would be better than that."

McCain went public with his concerns after published reports yesterday that Vice President Dick Cheney met with him to urge changes to his widely supported proposal to outlaw cruel and degrading treatment of detainees by any US official. Cheney suggested exempting CIA

No we are not alone. Look at North Korea, Russia, Iran, China and you can bet that a majority of African country's torture prisoners. So please stop pointing fingers at this country! The whole world tortures prisoners. I have a question if you were going to ban torture who would you propose we get prisoners to divulge information. until someone can answer this question, the security of this nation must be put before those who wish to destroy this nation. Remember the people that we are torturing are the ones who want to slit your family's throat.

Unknown. some international places have the comparable coverage, that's we don't torture prisoners. You assume that the U. S. has an professional torture coverage. In a fashion that's genuine. The coverage is that we don't torture. are you able to furnish extremely professional information declaring the professional torture coverage?

Without exception, every one who is looking to start a war or maintian a war with the US is fond of torture as a means of intimidation, recreation, and gathering information. If you want authorities to connect the dots and prevent the next sept 11 styled attack, you have to have dots to connect. Most prisoners will not just offer them up after eating dinner and saying evening prayers. You have to pry it out of them or risk more deaths. If you have a better plan for gathing information I'd like to hear it. Remember spying on their phone calls is not allowed any more. Our enemies have no miss givings about killing civilians. They also have no miss givings about torturing you if they catch you and think you may know something. They also have no miss givings about executing you by chopping off your head. They seem to understand the one thing we don't. All's fair in love and war and civilians are a ligit target. So whats your plan?

Torture is a very subjective word. When piles of bodies are discovered in Iraq - courtesy of the Islamic radicals - they usually have been tortured and killed.
Unlike many other countries, the United States hangs out its dirty laundry for the world to see - unpopular official policies are not covered up or carried out in secrecy.

U.S. Senator John McCain has limited use of both of his arms to this day due to the severe beatings he endured during his incarceration as a prisoner of war in Viet Nam, and that was over 35 years ago. That's torture.

When it comes down to the "rights" of a terrorist vs. the possible death of thousands of innocent men, women and children - what exactly is the debate here? We make the prisoners very uncomfortable in an effort to extract information concerning their next escapade of murder and mayhem - we do not inflict permanent physical damage to them and we do not kill them - and this sounds very reasonable to me. I don't know if I would be so lenient to someone who has threatened to kill my family - and their demands are very clear: Convert to Islam......or die.

Other countries just don't tell what they do. Why would you try to make more enemies for your country by spreading half truths?Liberals are so full of jealousy for not having any power they would see America ruined rather than have anything positive to say.
