I'm signifigantly overweight. I stand 5' 7" tall and i weigh 233 lbs. This is my first pregnancy and I'm just curious about a few things. When you're my size or bigger, I know there are going to be a few minor differences. I understand that. What I really wanted to know was, at what point were you able to actually feel your uterus? Either from the outside or inside? Did you begin to feel "tight" on the inside long before it was visible? If so, at what point in your pregnancy did you feel it? I'm still in my first trimester and just not feeling very pregnant and was wondering when I could look forward to feeling some changes. I'm fully aware that we're all different, I just wanted to know your experience. Did you have any complications due to weight?

Maybe I should clarify a bit. I'm not speaking of actually feeling the baby. I'm speaking feeling changes within my body. The tight feeling inside, being able to actually feel my uterus. Things like that. I'm 10 weeks now, so 12 isn't that far off. I thought I should maybe be feeling something, inside, by now. Not the baby, but the growth of my uterus. I hope you understand what I mean.

Thank all of you ladies that answered. Yes, most of my weight is concentrated right in my belly too. Actually, I carry my weight well and you'd never guess I actually weight that much. Sometimes when I lay down on my belly, I can feel a little pooch, but I thought that was probably gas, LOL! Although my weight may be unhealthy, I'm very healthy. I've always been very active and I have no health related issues. My doctor advised me to stay as active as I've always been and I should be fine. I may lose weight during my pregnancy and if that happens, it's fine. Because I am healthy, I'm not overly concerned with my weight, I just wanted to know when I could look forward to feeling some uterine growth! Again, thank all of you for telling me your stories and for your support.

Well I think you're still too early in pregnancy to feel your uterus. If this is your first pregnancy it may be a while before the uterus "pops" out of the pelvis because the ligaments and muscle have to stretch. I'm pregnant with my second and well, I'm 5'7" and I started off my pregnancy just under 200 lbs. With my first baby I was around 160 when I got pregnant so it was very different for me. I think I started to really feel my uterus in this pregnancy around 17 weeks maybe. I can't remember for sure. But I know now at 24 almost 25 weeks pregnant I can definatly feel it. Esp when I lay down it's very defined. I've gained a ton of weight already in this pregnancy. I've already gained 37lbs!! My eating habits were bad before. I didn't eat a lot and hardly ate and well, I have a history of eating disorder so this weight thing is killing me. I'm not sure if it's weight related but at my last two appts my blood pressure has been up and they are a little concerned about that. My husbands aunt had his cousin when she was in her 7th month because of her blood pressure. She went in and her blood pressure got really high so they sent her to the hospital and induced right away. So I'm scared that is going to happen. They also want me to start eating differently because of my weight. My dr told me to eat more protein and stay away from tons of carbs. Other than that I've been ok. Just the normal pregnancy stuff. I just can't wait to have the baby so I can start working out and losing this weight. Hang in there. Talk to your doctor about your concerns and maybe then can offer some helpful advise. Good luck!

I was obese, too, during my pregnancy, but like you - was very healthy and carried my weight well. I am an apple, too, so it seemed a long time before I had that "pregnant belly", don't remember what month, but it was pushing higher up. I had gotten a bit freaked out at the beginning, because when I went to a nutritionist, she had said the normal weight gain with pregnancy was between 25 and 35 pounds. This really bothered me, because I was so heavy already. Because I stopped eating and drinking junk, and went on healthy eating and increased exercise, I lost weight at the beginning of my pregnancy. I was seeing a specialist, and he advised me he had many obese patients, and that there probably would not be much weight gain. I ended up gaining only five pounds, and my son was eight pounds, three ounces. My back got hurt in the early part of my pregnancy, so that became a problem. I had sciatica, which could be lessened by my husband giving awesome massages.
From what I understand, everything else I went through was "normal" - from the baby's development, to him being very active kicking and stuff, to all the regular hormonal ups and downs. Husband was extremely supportive and involved, so that was an exceptional help. Good luck to you!

I know how you feel. I was overweight with my pregnancy too. I started to feel my uterus right underneath my belly button at about 12 weeks. Of course some pushing through the fat is needed. I started to expand right away, not gaining weight, but my belly got bigger. My advice is to find some maternity clothes that make you feel pretty and not to try to stay in your pre-pregnancy clothes once they start to feel snug. My worst experience was picking up my niece at preschool one day and all my friends had been telling me that I looked so pretty and all glowy from being prego and my belly was so cute, the woman at the preschool said I just heard you were pregnant I didn't even realize, I just thought that you were wearing baggy clothes. I was 8 months pregnant. I only gained 15 pounds through the first 37 weeks. Then I started getting hypertensive and and showing signs of toxemia. In 2 weeks I gained another 15 pounds. Eat healthy, but don't deny your cravings, do it in moderation. Stay active, walk for like 20-30 min a day or get one of those pregnant and fit tapes. I bet your Dr. would be thrilled with that, I know mine was. Don't let anyone berate you on weight that you may gain. Get all the test that the Dr. offers, triple check and diabetes. Girl! You aren't that big!
For one, how do you carry your weight. Are you big in the stomach?
I am 5 months right now, I weigh a little less than you am an inch taller and I could feel the top of my uterus at about 16 weeks. When it comes over your pelvic bone is when you can really feel it. Just pull your stomach tight from the top and kind of make little circles with your fingertips and you will feel it. When you have contractions later on, you will feel it big time!
I lost 80 pounds right before I got pregnant this time, last time I was WAY bigger. I felt those tightening contractions with NO problem. My whole stomach got tight. See, when you get really pregnant and big, that stomach, even if it is big now, will get really tight. When you contract, you will feel your belly tighten with no problem!
Don't worry girl! Just pull those little fat chunks and rub in circular motions for now and you can feel it. Also, ask your OB dr. how they go about feeling when they measure on bigger woman, she/he might have a trick or two when it comes to that situation, also!
Good luck girl! I am right here with you.

I have a friend who is about 260lbs and 20 weeks pregnant. She just started to feel her uterus and it's up around her bellybutton. I'm not overweight, and I could feel my uterus at around 16 or 17 weeks. She could just feel it getting harder under the skin. Hope this helps.

They checked me the day gone by, i became 34 weeks 2 days purely because of the fact they have been down there for some thing else besides. yet she advised me on the commencing up they do no longer commonly initiate checking till like 37 weeks, yet then she suggested she'd examine back at my next appt at 36 weeks because of the fact they are going to be doing the gang B Strep besides. i do no longer see any injury in asking for that she pass forward and consider you on the grounds which you're waiting to verify in case you prefer a c-area or no longer. properly worth a shot.

I had a friend who was quite overweight, so she decided that this was the best time to go on a diet. A very healthy good diet. So she gained zero weight during her pregancy and after delivery, was thirty pounds lighter than before pregnancy. She had a healthy 9 lb baby. Don't feel that because you are pregnant you cannot start a good diet. Your delivery will be easier if you drop some pounds , and you'll certainly have more energy for the baby afterwards. But right now the baby is like the size of a gummy bear, so you wont feel much. I wish you the very best of luck with your baby, and dont' give up on yourself and your body. Overweight is not healthy, pregnant or not. So do it for yourself and your baby.
