I bought a motorola a630 off of ebay that is unlocked. When I received the phone, it says t-mobile on it but I was assured that it would work with other companies, including cingular. However, when I put my sim card in, I can send and receive text messages but I can not make or receive phone calls. What should I do?

Call cingular and ask them to register your phone. Get the IMEI from the device.

Very easy ... enter *#06# and you will get a 15 digit number. Give it to them and they will add that to your profile and it should be fine.

I agree with the previous answer, and wish to add the following;

If your "new" cell phone is not capable of 911, no company will register it and allow it onto the network. All older phones without 911 capability are being gradually phased off the system as people replace them.

After a while, all these older technology phones will be good for is emergency call-out only, if that.
