Sure it would. Ignorance is bliss. Though, at the same time, that's not really living in reality. If we don't know what's going on around us, we don't know what to avoid, who to be careful around, who to mourn, etc. It's like living in a protected bubble, and the biggest problem with that is we can't really learn from the mistakes of others. We then are also not entitled to any sort of opinion because we know nothing of the world around us.
Granted, there are things out there that are irrelevent, but, how would you feel now had you not watched the news on September 11, 2001? It was a sad day for us all, but I saw it, and I can share in the grief of those who lost others, suffering of those who were lost, and the pride of our country rallying against a common foe and becoming stronger. There are amazing benefits to knowing what's going on, and the biggest is that we can remember it to pass it on to keep history from repeating itself.

Absolutely, I took a break from the internet and news for 6 weeks while visiting relatives, and I was much happier not following all the crap in the news.

No. It makes for a nice break, now and then, but I have to stay informed to do my job. I just wish the news actually reflected more of what was going on in the world.
I rarely watch television. I do read quite a bit on the internet, from many sources and countries, but that is part of my job. It has been an hectic week.

That's precisely why I don't watch the news, or listen to the news on the radio. And when people talk about it, I tune them out.
I first started when my brother was in Afghanistan, but I've just gotten used to it. I'm much happier!

Absolutely. I hate the news. My husband insists on watching it every evening and it puts me right in a mood. I think the news could be the reason that so many people are depressed all of the time.

I think I would be happier if I could depend on the accuracy of the news. Everybody has an agenda and I don't trust any of them.

How does that saying go, "ignorance is bliss". Sometimes the news is sooo depressing it is better not to hear it.
