Okay, so I am curious as to what everyone thinks about this.

I have a trip planned to fly to Tegucigalpa, Honduras from Georgia alone. My mother is VERY (cannot emphasis the word "very" enough) concerned and worried about this but I am quite the opposite! I am very excited and look forward to my first time traveling outside the U.S.

I could understand my mother's reasons for being worried if I was going to be alone the WHOLE time, but my fiance and his family are going to be meeting me at the airport. I will only be alone on the plane ride as well as during any layovers.

Like I said, I am curious to know other people's opinions on this and what they think of a woman who is traveling alone...and with it being my first time outside the country.

Does my mother really have ANY reason to worry about me?

And any other information about Tegucigalpa you can provide would be great too! Good or bad is fine with me as long as it's truthful!

Thanks!!

Okay so I found out that Tegucigalpa and Comayaguela are basically the same. Turns out my fiance lives in Comayaguela but just says Tegus. Anyone have any info on me traveling to Comayaguela? Has anyone ever been there? Any info will be appreciated! Thanks!

Do you speak Spanish, if not, then I would definitely learn some phrases and take along some translation books. Make sure someone knows where you are staying and contact numbers so they can call. Bring a calling card and money. Do not go out at night alone or for that matter, at all. My boyfriend is from there it can be very unsafe at night. Take along travel guides and areas of contacts (us embassy) so that if you get in trouble with the police (they are known to be corrupt) you have someone to help. Just use common sense, don't go out drunk or flashing money.. Just be careful.. You can still enjoy your trip..

Well, if your fiance is gonna meet you in the airport (which I assume is after you get off the plane), then there's nothing to worry about. Treat the plane ride like it's another commuting trip, like on a train, or bus, or something. Just remember to familiarize yourself with the proper etiquettes of getting on, through, and off the plane, like what to do, where to go, etc. Other than that, you'll be fine. As long as someone's meeting you after you get off the plane, then it's fine.

Also, enjoy your trip, and good luck!

it is a crazy world that we live in. just pick up a newspaper and read it. Your mother has every reason to be concerned, after all she is your mother. Just be careful and be aware of your surroundings.also have a safe trip and I hope all goes well.GOOD LUCK.
