Back in the late '50s, when America was struggling to expand its nuclear arsenal, my father hatched the bright idea of mining uranium from the mountains in Southeast Oklahoma. Fortunately, he didn't have the where with all to launch the venture, and my grandfather, being of far more sound mind, wouldn't loan him any money.

In the family of a friend one day the father told the rest of them they were going to move from suburban Boston to rural Indiana. He had seen an ad for homes there and they looked good.

He left his job, packed up the car, got a mover for the stuff in their apartment, and they moved out to a little crappy house in a small town. He never did get a good job there.

They stayed there for enough years for their middle daughter to graduate high school and then he came to his senses and moved them all back to new England.
