More than 3 months ago I broke my right wrist and severely sprained my left wrist in an accident. Now my right wrist appears to be 95% healed where as my left does not seem to be getting better. In fact, if I isolate the left wrist for a few days it becomes stiff and more painful than if I were to keep it in use. I can not apply any force on the wrist joint except for pulling movements. What does anyone out there think is the prob? Should I keep stretching and working it? I realize I need to seek therapy but I'm deployed in the military and won't be able get help for the wrist for another 2 months. Will that be to late for therapy to be any good to me? Any help or insight will be very appreciated.

Hi sounds to me you may still have a fracture that hasent healed as you should not still be having pain 3 mths later. Some times when you have a x-ray the fracture doenst allways show up due to swelling, thats why we normally ask for a second a wk later.Go bck to your gp or hospital and get another x-ray done,if you have a fracture you will be in a plaster cast up to 8 wks.I would not leave this problem 2 mths either just incase you have a fracture and its not in allignment you will have problems the rest off your life and pain too,you need to get this sorted out.Good Luck

The break healed and the sprain didn't?
There may be some ligament or tendon damage. If your wrist turned blue at any point then it is a good sign that you tore something. Seeking therapy sooner is always better. There must be some sort of way for you to see a physical therapist in the military. I would recomend it. but if there is NO way someone can look at it, physical therapy later would still help later on.... it may however not be as effective

Hard to tell.. ligaments still can be torn. If they are, moving it around may do more harm than good. Best bet is to pretend it is still injured and treat it so (keep it splinted when possible, ice it, elevate it, etc.). In another two months if it still hurts get an MRI to check it out. Good luck.

EDIT: Okay, I re-read that.. it gets stiff and painful if it's not moved at all. So forget the splint. But just be very careful with it, as you already know.

I don't know what to say except best of luck.

Get it re xrayed. Sometimes a break doesn't show up on the first one. You may need an MRI of the wrist to show what's going on in it. Don't jack around with any therapy, stretching or anything else until you see an Orthapedic Surgeon and let him/her evaluate it for possible hidden fracture

My hubsand broke both of his arms in four different places. In cast for several months. He went to therapy for several months. Soaking his arm in warm water and ice on it when they swelled. Like the other people said there could be some nerve or other damage there. Is there no doctor where you are deployed? Thank you for serving in the military. I think exercising it is good just don't overdo do it.

I think that you need to see someone about that. But streching it might help. If it makes it feel better then do it. Also ice it, then heat it. Get blood flowing through it. Also try putting it in a wrist brace for a couple of hours.
