My mother used it as such. She had a few needles inserted somewhere near the bottom of her earlobe and whenever she felt hungry between meals she would press these lightly until the feeling faded. She claimed it worked.

By way of explanation - I have studied and used TCM for many years in some cases, especialy where there is damage to the nervous system like in a stroke, acupunture is very effective.

In the case of weight loss, the feeling of hunger is transmitted to the brain as a series of electrical impulses - if u can somehow stop or modify those impulses then u can loose the hungry feeling

In acupuncture the needle is inserted at a point where the nerve pathways intersect - thus interrupting or modifying the impulse on its way to ur brain

It can also be used to stop pain during an operation or dental work - instead of anaesthetic

Yes, accupuncture has proven to help reduce the feeling of hunger. The areas affected are in the ear. As far as I know the effects of accupuncture in treatment of diet doesn't last more than about 7 days at a time ...so if you were really serious about this method you would probably have to have this treatment once a week. Good Luck.

Yes if you go to a real acupuncturist (is that a real word??) and not some quack! Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has been used to treat almost every ailment for thousands of years. It is now a real science and research has been done into it's effectiveness and how it "works"

Yes it can help curb appetite. I think the method generally used is to have a staple put in the ear (similar to the one used for smoking cessation) which you wiggle when you feel hungry.

I enjoyed reading the answer from 'roamin70' but I dont think it was meant as a joke?
A similar 'cure' would be to have a metal spike up your nose, then whenever you felt hunger pangs, just jab it up a bit more, the resuting pain will put you right off food!!
Hope this helps????
