How about hitting the casinos in CT - less than an hour away from where you are for both Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun.

http://www.foxwoods.com/
http://www.mohegansun.com/

Both casinos have other things to do besides gambling....

A friend of mine and his gf once went overnight camping near Mt. Washington and the Kancamangus Highway in New Hampshire -if you prefer the outdoors.

My boyfriend and I have gone on two short trips recently, and I loved both. We went to Mohegan Sun and had a blast. The food was amazing, the shows were great, and the casino itself was pretty fab too. We didn't stay over there, because it's only about an hour and a half away from Boston. For a short weekend trip we had a great time in Vermont. Also, we are planning a trip to the White Mountains of NH which could be day or a weekend.

Go up to the North Shore, specifically Cape Ann. You can go to the apple orchard in Ipswich, go antiquing and have lunch or take a river cruise in Essex, walk around the harbor and all of the shops in Gloucester, go for a walk on the beach in Manchester. There are some cute hotels, if you decide to extend the day trip, also! The newspaper for Cape Ann is the Gloucester Daily Times (www.gloucestertimes.com) and it often has a listing of events, etc. It's an easy drive, also. Just go from rt. 95 to 128 and follow it to the end!

Go to Salem, Mass.! Especially at this time of year, Halloween. Be sure to check out the Witch Museum and the Witch Dungeon.

Vermont is wonderful at this time of year. Visit Ben and Jerry's, the Cabot Cheese makers, and look at the leaves. I wish I could go.
