Now, I've been thinking (I sometimes do that ya' know!): I mean, gee whiz, when those ballerinas pull their arms in, they really spin like crazy! So if we'd just sit our fat rear ends down (and stop hangin' out at the door waiting for quitting time), wouldn't time fly by so we could go home sooner? (Ouch, I just bit my tongue and cheek!)

Two more points I'd like to make. 1)Mastodons and Wooly Mammoths are probably extinct for the reason stated. I mean CroMagnon man probably offed them because they were always up roaming around causing the work day to be so darn long!
2) I see a federal study in the offing and possibly a new bureaucracy: The Department of Standing, Sitting, and Fan-Pointing.

Nonetheless, I'm going to sit and wait next time I order pizza! (That way it'll still be warm when it gets here.)

Yup. The Earth has a mass of 6 E24 kg. There are 6 billion of us, so if we all sat down 60 million tonnes would be 1 metre closer to the Earth's spin axis, bearing in mind that we're distributed at varying latitudes. The average chunk of Earth is about 3000 km. from its axis. So the earth's day would be shortened by about 1 part in 3E20. That's about 3E-16 seconds a day.

Yes, but if you could get everybody in the world to sit down at the same time...well, who would work on the roads? Okay, bad example. Who will deliver the pizza? If everyone would stop working just to sit down and make time go faster, it would be a grave situation indeed. And as gravity increases, time slows down. This may not only negate any advantage, but may even exacerbate the initial problem.

An amusing notion, but unmeasureably small.

First, not everyone stands all the time. So let's assume that 3 billion people are standing. Let's actually make them lie down.

The change in the moment of inertia of the Earth would be 1 part in 10^19. That's basically impossible to measure.

Yes. And if everybody pointed their fans to the west, the earth would spin faster, too. So I suggest everybody sit down at work, turn their fans on hi and point them to the west Monday through Friday. That way we'll get through the work week faster.

Likewise, for weekends, point the fans to the east, and get up and party.

I'm glad we've got this figured out...

I have danced all my life. The idea is to get a 'focal point' and fixate your eyes on it as you spin, thereby keeping your equilibrium centered.
Now, sitting your fanny down and waiting for time to pass is redundant...therefore, I would humbly suggest that you dance your day away...as you make copies...as you walk the halls, as you wait on the phone with calls, shuffle your feet, swing your hips, do a little dance...it's good exercise, great for lowering your cholestrerol, blood sugar, and it makes you feel fantastic. Happy feet! Time really WILL go faster!
(dancing teachers are especially cool!!!)

If the earth were scaled down to the size of a billiard ball - including the highest mountains and deepest oceans - the scale model would be smoother than the billiard ball.
Unfortunately, that makes us minuscule creatures rather insignificant - whether we are standing up, sitting down or even buried, for that matter.

Well you know me and my world does seem to spin much faster when I sit down and get on this computer. However, we all need to take a break from work, computer and just spin! Spin around enjoying life!
I hope you are well!

I suppose that would techinically be correct, but the combined weight of all humans still isn't that large on a global scale and the distance that weight would be transferred is also not that great.

Hey, Bro,we all need to slow down a minute.
Maybe we should all stand up at the same time with arms in the air!
Organize it. Put it together!

an interesting concept thats why the majority of people (workers, students anyone who has a job) always sit down so that they can waste enough time so that they can go home faster
