The Qing Dynasty of Manchu origin began in 1644. Historians often think of Qian Long, who ruled from 1736-1796, as the most productive emperor of the Qing. During his reign the currency value increased, many historical works were written, and European settlers were almost completely kept out of China. After the reign of Qian Long, China began deteriorating. European countries began colonizing parts of China, especially Britain. During the 1800s, opium began appearing in China, and many rebellions occurred because of this. The Tai Ping Rebellion, which killed over 20 million people, was a rebellion against opium and for a communist-Christian government. By 1911 China had weakened itself greatly, and it was taken over by Sun yat-sen and his followers. This destroyed the Qing Dynasty.
