Look to countries like Canada and Australia as examples... why should only the rich be able to afford excellent health care? Excellent, top-notch health care should be made available to all who need it....not just those who can afford it.

I think if everyone in health care respects each other and help out as needed that would make a great improvement. I feel that normally the person who works one on one with the patient should actually be given the most respect due to they always alert the superior if something is happening. Unfortunately that's not how it really goes down the health care system.

Its in a pathetic state! What health care system?????? Something has to be done for the poor people. Socialize it like Canada. Even if you work full time the bene's are so bad that nobody has anything proper for real emergencies. I am included in that percentage and I know I'm not alone.

Quite a few things:
For starters, acknowledge that the rich can afford a different tier of health care than everyone else.
For everyone else, universal insurance. If they cannot pay for it through their employer or personally, than it should be provided by the government. But there must be a few exceptions, like no coverage for smoking, obesity, and addictions. If people aren't going to take care of their own bodies, why should we?

We had over $23,000+ in out of pocket health care costs in 2005. It took our income into the poverty level. We are self-employed. I am on Medicare part D, but had to pay $3600 this year in the middle of the plan to get out of the donut hole, and have to pay Medicare $35 a month for that, BCBS $100 a month for supplemental policy, and get a separate dental rider for $35 a month. Those politicians screwed us over big time.
We should get the federal workers plan which is what they get. When my husband had his federal job, we got to choose the health care provider that cost $60 a month for a family plan + dental, and you could get 90-day supply of any prescription for $20. It was a call-in mail order service thru Merc.
I didn't realize how hard it would be after he quit. Once you quit getting covered, you'd better be in tiptop shape with NO bad habits to maybe get coverage out on your own. We had a Cobra and then has so much time to pick up our own. We have a small business plan. My daughter tried to get her own insurance after age 23 but was turned down by every company. She has many problems. She went to work full-time for her dad and if we go out of business, she will die. Her meds run around $3,000 a month. I have Parkinson's and mine run $2000 a month.Neither of us has a condition that would be any fun to die of because of lack of medication. This country has a crisis brewing on the home front and the fat-cats in Washington HAD better listen seriously to their constituents. I see a revolution brewing.

I presume you are referring to the American system.
Hell will freeze over before Americans give up preferential treatment for the rich so I suggest that you look to the UK .
There, universal healthcare is funded for all and there is also a private system, quicker, but not otherwise better, for the well heeled.
