I'm assuimg that you're from Canada, since this is on Yahoo! Canada... Depending on the program, residence, program supplies... genereally per year, you're looking around 2,300 or so for one year, with base tuition. Not counting books, which.. .depending on your program... usually around at LEAST $500.00. Uniforms, meals, transportation, all extra.

What "should" it cost? That varies a lot, because, for example, the costs of public schools are deceptive, since part of the cost is covered by taxes, not just tuition. Also, it depends on what you consider decent. Do you just want someone teaching standard classes, or are you talking about a major research institution, with extensive labs, libraries, technology, and perhaps a hospital? Tuition, in great part, needs to cover the costs of doing whatever the institution does.

I honestly believe that it SHOULD cost nothing at all, but with a limit on places, and the college held responsible for a fair admissions policy. The government gets its investment back via the graduates' higher earnings, and hopefully their overall impact on the efficiency and productivity of the whole workforce.
International students should also be free if their government reciprocates this scheme, but otherwise charged the full cost.

what the cost SHOULD be based on, is yours and your parents income. it doesn't seem fair that the only people that seem to be able to afford college are the ones whose parents also went and have good enough jobs to afford it for their kids. i mean how does the cycle ever get broken if because i didn't go to college i probably wont be able to afford to send my kids, no matter how hard i work. its just another example of the rich get richer while the poor STAY poor.

Well, there are many factors scholarships, financial aid, room and board, in state or out. I went to a private college and it cost $17,000 per year for off campus. So, I would say public should be lower. I would say around 12,000-15,000.

it should be easily affordable, or free, but our govt doesnt want a well educated population, they want serfs. And the people are too clueless to know they are shepards, you know the sheep love the shepard, until they snatch them up fleece em and slaughter them.
